In Tibet, the elephant is a powerful symbol of strength, wisdom, and steadfastness, representing both the pure mind and the mind's potential to be tamed. The white elephant symbolizes the pure and untainted mind, while its taming represents the path of controlling and cultivating the mind in Tibetan Buddhism, as in the practice of Shi-Ne (calm abiding). Furthermore, in ancient times, it was seen as a cosmic creature supporting the universe.
