The white elephant symbolizes the pure and untainted mind, while its taming represents the path of controlling and cultivating the mind in Tibetan Buddhism, as in the practice of Shi-Ne (calm abiding). Furthermore, in ancient times, it was seen as a cosmic creature supporting the universe.
