Lama Tsongkapa

Lama Tsongkhapa (1357–1419), also known by his ordained name Losang Drakpa, was a highly influential Tibetan Buddhist monk, philosopher, and tantric yogi. He founded the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, which became one of the major schools in Tibet. Born in the Tsongkha valley of Amdo in northeast Tibet, his birth was marked by miraculous signs. Tsongkhapa was renowned for his deep scholarship, teaching numerous Buddhist texts, and for his reform efforts to renew Buddhist teachings during a time of decline. He integrated teachings from various Buddhist traditions, including Nyingma, and was considered by some as an incarnation of the great Indian Buddhist master Nagarjuna. He established the Ganden Monastery, which became the principal seat of the Gelug tradition. Tsongkhapa is also known as "Je Rinpoche" (Precious Lord) and is revered for his philosophical works and dedication to monastic discipline and tantric practice
